Folks, has anyone had luck finding 14′ pike shafts at Home Depot? Kirk and I have both encountered nice 12′ ones, but none 14′ long. I’m getting concerned that they no longer stock them, please check your local HD to see if they have any!

I've checked, but they told me that they normally only get about 12' ones and that it's a random chance on anything longer. I've tried a few others since then and it seems to be the same story at Lowe's too. They did suggest going to lumber mills.

I may have a lead! I found an ad for someoneselling Cedar poles at $1 a foot (length I think), the ad says that the longest is 12' but can do longer. Should I call to see if 14' is possible? The only reason I haven't is that I wasn't sure if cedar would work for us. Also I don't know what the diameter of them are, but I wanted to check about the cedar thing before I call.

Hi Alex,
Stephen is out of town but I talked to him about your lead when he called me last night. Cedar is a North and South American wood, so not necessarily available to us in Europe, but we'd be willing to try it for that cheap! The diameter of our current pikes are 1.5″ Do you think you might be able to find out more about it or possibly pick up one 14' length before the weekend so we can play with it and see if we might want more?

Just called him, and all the 1.5'' ones he had he delivered a few days ago (though he has 4″ to 6″ diameter ones if anyone wants some). On the bright side if he finds any more in the near future he'll give me a call.

Sad, that sounded like a good deal. I'm still looking but I don't think any of the main stream stores cary anything that long anymore.
If it comes down to last minute let me know if we need to grab the 12ft ones since we will need something. Do we have the time to try and shape and add some kind off tip painted silver to the ends to add length and such? I thought we were gonna probably do that Saturday but since we have had no luck with poles do we have another plan?

The next plan is to purchase square lumber and Stephen and I will spend weekday evenings ripping it down to octagonal shafts in our driveway. Just like all the tent poles we did several years back. If anyone wants to come up and help we'd love to see you!

I did some research for you folks on these.
Ash is fairly expensive but to get ahold of 14 and 16' shafts where fairly cheap when priced out… someone pm me the”price to beat”.
I can get ahold of most types of lumber, pine is the cheapest of course.
/guy who works at lowes.
