In brief, Scott has been approached by an armourer to be the official armourer for Pragon Jousting. As part of the deal he is getting new armour for the horses and such at a very good price. So next year at this time the horses will be armoured and looking great (not that they don't already) and this gives Scott some additional thoughts.

He saw some of our weapons demo and was very impressed and is now wondering what would be required to make the pikes safer in order to actually run a demo with horse and pike for next season. (Assuming we are intersted) I certainly think it would be pretty awesome to see. It really all hinges on safety. Can we make it safe enough for all involved (people and horses)? To clarify, there is no intention to actually hit the pike line in a charge but to break off or circle the formation without contact. However the idea is to use some sort of fake tipped/possible break away pike end in order to be safer “if” a horse accidentally makes contact.

How cool would it be to have horses come riding out of one corner of the field during drill and have us take up Quad. Have them ride around a couple times, form up on one side and charge then split off etc.

So since most everyone else had left by then he asked that I convey the idea to Stephen and the group for possible discussion at a later dater (when all this years craziness is finished)

Certainly worth getting together and seeing what can be done at the very least.

Also, Scott said he would be sure to notify us when he plans to give Seth his spurs so those of us who want to attend can be present…sometime this faire run.

That sounds interesting. I'd be curious to know how they ran the cavalry charges at the School of the Renaissance Soldier that Stephen attended in California a while back (http://www.renaissancesoldier.com/).

I'll catch up with Scott this weekend to chat. We did this at SRS with no problems using wooden only pikes (the tips were shaped and painted to look metal but were not). There's a lot more to it than that, but I think something might be workable there. It is, afterall, what we're designed to do.

Also need to talk to him about some photos, it would be cool to lay out some shots we both could use.
