Folks, Marc and I had been planning to attend this:
Saturday August 21, 2010
Historical Combat Symposium: From Page to Practice
10:00a-5:00p
The Higgins Armory Museum’s world-class historical combat program invites researchers and practitioners from around New England to our first day-long symposium. A series of lectures, hands-on workshops, and round-table discussions will focus on the state of the art in the region in turning historical combat treatises into living practice. $25, includes lunch and museum admission.
Of course, as Marc just pointed out to me, it conflicts with a workshop. I think this might be interest to a few of us, as well as getting some exposure to others in our field of interest. Should we swap the workshop on the 21st to a different day? Maybe trade with a sewing day? Thoughts?

I have no problem moving the Workshop date. Would it make sense to just move it from Saturday the 21 to Sunday the 22nd? No matter which day we pick, some people aren't going to be availble.
However, since we have 144 little Landsknecht hats to make for Soldier School, I DO have a problem with trading for a sewing day. I'm really hoping to have a couple people show up to help with the cutting and the pinning even if they can't sew a thing. It is just too much work for any one person to do by themselves. And having an assembly line would make it not only easier but more fun.

By trading I meant not that we don’t do a sewing day, but maybe we do the symposium and sewing on the same day?
A thought on the hats. Once they’re cut out, maybe we pass out a certain number to various people and sew them in our own time, with a deadline of dress weekend. Thoughts?

maybe we do the symposium and sewing on the same day?
Ah! That would definately work! So then we'd have Sewing Workshop #2 on Saturday August 21st and make that Sunday Sept 12th the Guild Workshop instead?

I'm sure I could take a few hats off of your hands and do them outside of workshop hours.

A few ideas in this thread that I think are good:
1.) Sword Symposium. I'll be there on 8/21.
2.) Passing out of hats to various people to sew on their own time. My sewing skills are, frankly, non-existent, so I think something simple like a hat will be a good place to brush up (as opposed to, say, a Waffenrok, which I will eventually have to progress to).
