Folks, here's hoping you all made it home safely and are now warm and dry as you read this. I have to say that so much of this run has made me impressed with this Fähnlein, but I can't think of one that tops today's striking of camp. Yes, it was wet, it was cold, it was miserable, but everyone pitched in, there was very little complaining (and none I heard about the actual work we had to do, mostly about weather), and there were even moments of laughter and joking. For me, sad as it was to end in such muck, this weekend was a high point in this whole process. This weekend more than any other, we were truly a Fähnlein.
When we began this process back in May, I could not have hoped things would have turned out as well as they have. Many of you know I've been wanting to have a Landsknecht Guild up here for years. When I approached Brian Harvard about the idea last winter, I was excited that it was finally going to be a reality, but at that point it seemed a daunting task. Alena, Julie, Amanda, and Tom helped me start putting some meat on the skeleton, though I think on some level all 5 of us thought this first season might only be the 5 of us trying to do a million different things. When I put out the call for others I was excited that we got the responses we did. Our May meeting was the point when I first felt this was not only going to happen, but might actually go well. Each person who joined us brought something new to the unit. To list every wonderful thing you each did would take too long, but may this brief message carry to you some small measure of my thanks for all each of you did to make this a reality that was, honestly and literally the talk of the faire!
