Folks, in preperation for the school, I want to set up “stations” as we discussed. It is my hope that some of the kids will be eating as part of the whole “station” thing so we can rotate them through more slowly. Right now I have 4 definite stations, and I'd like options of 2 more. Here are my thoughts with staffing. 4 of them we talked about, others are ones Alena suggested:
Camp Life - 2 tents will be set up for the students to come in and look at the way soldiers traveled. One will be the Captain's tent, complete with rope bed, the other will be that of a sergeant. We'll have some of the women in the camp explaining the effort and logistics of an army on the move — staffed by Alena and Sabrina
Handiwork - demonstrating copper work and sewing, examples of skills that might be done on the road as they can be easily transported — staffed by Kris and Jennifer (Jennifer, can you bring sewing? If not, I'm sure we can find some for you
Pike drills - building on what was discussed at the end of the Master at Arms demonstration, the primary weapon of the Landsknecht will be shown off in all its length - staffed by Marc and Alex
Matchlock - a demonstration of the weapon changing the face of the battle field, complete with firing demonstration. Our Weibel (sergeant) will be assisted by his wife to help show the role of women in battle – staffed by Tom and Amanda
Food - (not cooking!) talk about and show some of the utensils we use, the foods we travel with, and discuss seasonality and how we procure most food when we get there. – staffed by Julie and Betsy
Rules of the camp — The Hauptmann will talk about how one becomes a Landsknecht, the rules that one swears to follow, how one is paid, and the trouble of communicating on and off the battlefield. – staffed by Stephen
Thoughts? Questions? Concerns?

The one we have at the village is from Plymoth but I don't know if they sell them. I believe they are still used as yard brooms in England, but I don't know if they'r being sold online.

Station thing sounds good. I think I know enough about food at this point, so sure. Plus will be great to come out and play with you all again.

Can Alex or I strap on the butter knife, since the Hauptman has a nice new katzbalger?

I will be more than happy to bring some sewing. I definitely have stuff left to do on Tibor's shirt.
Have you confirmed the times yet. As it turns out, Tibor has to go to Africa, so I am not sure when I will arrive, and now I have to take the girls to school. I drop the girls off at school at school at 7:45 and then will be on my way to CT. I still have to see how long it will take me to get there. So I am worried I may be a bit late.

Of course, Marc. Maybe one of you can borrow Tom's, too. Jennifer, i fyou get there by 11, I think we'll be fine. Armoured combat goes first.
I'm waiting for exact timing, we may want to be there at 9 for set up.

And those of us who haven't been there before will need an address too.

Speaking of the pike, are we wanting to talk about how the halbert or bihander was used against them?

Found these links for birch/besom brooms. Also, if you search for besom brooms, you will get a variety being sold to you from every pagan/wicca page online. I'll leave it to someone else to judge for our period accuracy, but they are certainly available. Also, the first link is for an artisan who makes them out of Massachusetts I believe so they are closer and easier to acquire for us New Englanders I think.

As I get final timing from the school, I think I can safely set our arrival time at 9 AM. remember we have to erect 2 tents (possibly the fly), set up all the gear (including tables, rope bed, etc) dress, talk about each of our stations, and be ready to go BEFORE the armoured combat demo. I know, Jennifer, that you can't be there that early, please plan to arrive already dressed.
You all know how I feel about tardiness, this is one time we really want to be punctual. Alex, since you'll be there at 7:15, we'll see you when we arrive.

I will get there as soon as I can, dressed, ready to go and sewing in hand. I will bring my stool, anything else? Also, in making plans for my girls to be picked up from school, what time, with all the breakdown, do you feel we will be ready to leave the school, ball park time?

That's the big nebulous part. I think we're looking at 2 to get away.
