Guild 12th night?

I know Jennifer has already posted about the dance and some of us are planning to attend, but I’m speaking of the winter gathering we had last year and, hopefully, this year as well! Wee need to get the ball rolling, so here goes.

Since some of us are going to the dance, what is the possibility of doing our own 12th night on that Saturday, the 15th? Last year we hosted it here, but the Toth’s have offered up their place and are a little more central, so possibly this would work out? Jennifer, Tibor, weigh in please. Otherwise, we are willing to host again. We could also shoot for a different weekend if folks have suggestions.

As last year, I propose a daytime gathering to talk business followed by some form of workshop (last year was some basic cooking stuff), then eat and hang until we all go our merry ways. I’m open to suggestions for workshop ideas, though if the Toth’s have a fireplace and are amiable, I’ll suggest a period (IE, flint and steel) fire starting workshop as something all of our characters should know. Other thoughts?

Let’s weigh in here soon and see who can make it so we can nail this down!

That works for me.  The only possible conflict is Rob Isaacson's Midwinter Stage Combat Seminar.  Tom was thinking about going and bringing Tibor with him.  But if they decide not to go, I think that date would work well.

I would think I could make it. The term is starting off with a bang here, but I should be able to make my weekends free for awhile as far as I know.

That's also Arisia weekend.  But I'm not going this year, so I'm free. And I don't know if anyone else in the Guild goes to that con.

I have to work the 15th so I am out if we do it that weekend, but do whatever works best for the majority.

Tibor and I are happy to host the meeting whenever it occurs.  However, the 15th is the one date that Tibor is going to take the classes offered by Cliff and Rob.  He also wants to take the classes on the 22nd, but will cancel if the Guild wants to meet.

We are available on Sunday the 16th if those staying here want to hang out an extra day and we meet on Sunday instead.  Otherwise, we could meet on the 15th without Tom and Tibor.  Most Saturdays are ok for us except for January 29th, which is Birka.

I leave it up to our leader to decide the next move.

PS: We have two fireplaces.

OK, I’m going to suggest the 22nd and that we meet in the afternoon, say 2pm. This would let Tibor take the morning class if he wants and will set us up to do dinner as a group, then hang out. I think The Toth’s place is our most central, and as they are willing to host I’m inclined to take them up on it. Last year we made our dinner as part of a workshop, I’m fine with either doing something along those lines again (IE, letting the cooks try out new recipes with the convenience of a modern kitchen) or something else. Fire starting seems like a good skill to work on as there are fireplaces together, though I’m open to other ideas.

We’ll do our normal business meeting in the afternoon, get it out of the way. Topics will include money (and what we do with it), events for the year, and getting the ball rolling on 12th century.

Who can make it? Julie, can you email folks as well as some may not be checking a lot?

January 22nd at 2pm is fine with the Toth's.  Let us know what we can do to get ready for the meeting.  I will have the kitchen ready if those of us who cook, want to cook.

Otherwise for dinner, we have a great place near by for chicken wings, both boneless or bone in, if we decide to do takeout.  I would say it's BOYB for the hangout afterwards, but we have a lot of stuff here too.

If anyone would like to spend the night, if it gets too late, just let me know in advance.  We have lots of room, but if you know me, I like to plan.

Pencil me and Eric in, barring tragedy, we *should* be there. We are in the middle of cleaning out and painting a new house so we can move in by the end of the month. In that case things might get crazy, but we're going to plan on being there!

I’m hoping there are still more who haven’t said they can make it that will appear. Meanwhile, we should make a decision on food. Do we want to cook? Order out? Or potluck it?

I am happy to cook if we are trying new recipes.  Julie wanted to do some baking as well.  We could cook and still do some takeout if everyone wants to.  Those are my thoughts anyway.Kiss

If we're trying out recipes I could make a custard pie?  Should I get ingredients?  Is anyone else cooking?

That was my question. Who is cooking, and how are we working this? I'd be happy to help out.

I’m inclined to let Jennifer set the rules, but I’ll suggest anyone cooking should bring their own ingredients and make certain Jennifer has whatever items you’ll need (pots, utensils, etc). Otherwise, coordinating cooking time will be good but might be doable there.

It’s also probably good if other folks bring munchies/snacks/drinks so that we don’t eat the Toths out of house and home. To avoid everyone bringing the same, lets go with the idea that if you aren’t cooking, bring one of the following (first come/first choice)

2 folks to bring drinks (4 liters of soda or equivalent. Mix caffeine and non)
2 folks on desserts
2 folks with munchies (chips and dip, etc)

I’m going to say we’ll bring guac and chips as I’m feeling lazy, so that’s one of the munchies taken!
