I came across these while trolling the blogosphere:

http://translate.google.com/tr…..53,GGLD:en

slightly primitive, from Switzerland, and possibly slightly early. But I found them interesting for the fact that the women are wearing solid colored dresses.

And for the fact that the transalated website says the dresses with swimmies are “girded”, which makes sense when looking at the derivation of the word girdle which is Old High German for belt. Anyone else read old books and use the phrase to “gird your loins” to mean to prepare for something unpleasant or protect yourself in a vulnerable area?

I might still call them swimmies, but it is also good to have a real name for the dress style.
