I recently finished reading “How to do it”, which is a summery of Renaissance Italian advice manuals.  I collected some fabulous phrases that I wanted to share with all of you!  If in your reading you stumble across one, feel free to add it here!

Chiara’s guide of Proper ways to say improper things;

Penis= virile member

Vagina= dishonest part

Genitalia= shameful parts

Sexual intercourse= the act of Venus

Sex in marriage= the marital debt

To get an erection= to straighten out the member

Missionary position= “The woman should face the sky, and her husband the earth”

Erectile dysfunction= the member is sleeping

And don’t underestimate the importance of metaphors!

“And now she is pregnant again, so obviously he is a good plowman working a fertile field.”
