I think we all agree the amputation was a big hit, but a lot of work. I like the idea of adding an actual surgery each day as it is supposed to be battlefield medicine. What if we amputate on Saturday and trephine on Sunday (btw, my iPhone knows the word trephine!). I have some thoughts on how we can pull this off, could be a lot of fun!

I like the idea but would suggest if we are doing “surgery” the demo needs to be later in the day. I think it would be hard for the patient to join drill otherwise. Unless Father Ludwig prays really really hard between medical demo and drill and an arm miraculously grows back.

I think we’d have to have recoveries after the fact.

I'm up for it too, though I would really like to know how you plan on doing the trephine demo. And having in the morning the first season that we do this may not be a bad thing, see how people like (and squirm at) it.

You could have one of the guys get hit during the weapons demo and have to be carried off the field and back to our camp. It would keep the people we already attracted for the weapons demo if they are interested in watching what happens to the men when they are injured. Perhaps a couple of the men could get injured, one could just need a bandage and maybe walks back to camp for aid, while the other, something more invasive. We could make a whole production about how the camp rallies after a battle to attend to the injured.

That would work for drawing a crowd, even if we just have some of the men training out back and hurting each other (if the demo is still in the morning). Though I think that would make us one of the most “accident” pone units in the 1500s.
