I have a request from all of us who are planning on heading up recipe choosing and cooking for this fall. We would like to able to provide everyone with at least one or two dishes that they can eat each meal. To that end, would anyone who has allergies, or dietary issues mind putting a brief post up on this thread? I am sure we don't want to make anyone feel bad or have to haul out your food problems (and please stick with actual restrictions, not just preferences), but I would certainly feel more comfortable knowing I wasn't going to make anyone sick or unable to participate in the meal through my recipe or ingredient choices.  I can also get the ball rolling with mine.


I am allergic (though not deathly so) to all dairy. That means butter, cheese, milk, or any byproduct etc. baked or fresh.

I do not handle meat well, and therefore generally choose not to eat it at all, including fish.

Tibor eats everything, but does not like mushrooms.  Tibor has no food allergies

Jennifer eats chicken and fish only and also does not like mushrooms.  Jennifer is allergic to Swiss cheese.

Uncooked fruits and veggies, along with nuts and anything nut like (ie. almonds and peanuts). If you need more info. look for Pollen-Food Syndrome (Oral Allergy Syndrome), or at least that's what the sheet my doc. gave me calls it.

Here's an (adapted) version of my diet list of avoids. Note, that these are ADHD triggers, not anaphylactic. If an oopsies is made, it won't kill me.  But I might not be making the best judgement calls.

The Feingold Program eliminates these additives and chemicals:

    * Synthetic coloring
    * Artificial flavoring (including imitation vanilla flavoring or “vanillin” )
    * Artificial preservatives (BHA, BHT, and TBHQ, made from petroleum; also termed “anti-oxidants” because they prevent or delay the “oxidization” of fats in foods, which make them rancid)
    * Salicylates (a group of chemicals related to aspirin, which are a naturally occurring pesticide in particular food plants – see ‘Food sources of salicylates’ below; also manufactured and used in many products including medicines, perfumes and solvents). Only some are eliminated on the Feingold diet.
    * Artificial sweeteners
    * Other food additives considered undesirable (such as MSG, sodium benzoate, nitrites, sulfites) – I try to avoid these

Food Sources of Salicylates
Apricots, Grapes, Oranges, Plums, Prunes, Raisins, Tangelos, Tangerines

In conjunction, I avoid alcohol in any cooking, especially wine.  (I know, but its so period.)

I am totally OK, if there is a dish on any of the days that I'll avoid so wine can be used.

I have no alergies that I am aware of. Eric is allergic to Clams and Muscle (but not lobster or shrimp), though I have a feeling that wont be a problem.

My allergies are all new world foods, basically as offshoots of the latex allergy, no tropical fruits kiwis,star fruit, bananas. Phosphates andsulfates give me a headache but aren't  life threatening just really annoying.
