Last fall Stephen seemed distressed by the fact that we were serving some food with a french name (though everyone seemed to like the dish itself!) I've spent some time researching the dish, and it seems like most European countries at the time have a version of blancmanger (which means white food in French) and call it something that sounds an awful lot like the french.

I finally tracked down the German name in a cookbook that Julie loaned me. This cookbook has a modern German translation alongside a modern english translation and the recipe that, in the english section, is called blank manger is called, in German: “blamensir”.

So there you have it. If anyone wants to let us know how to pronounce that, it would be greatly appreciated.
